The LSST Era of Supermassive Black Hole Accretion Disk Reverberation Mapping

چکیده
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will detect an unprecedentedly large sample actively accreting supermassive black holes with typical accretion disk (AD) sizes a few light days. This brings us to face challenges in the reverberation mapping (RM) measurement AD active galactic nuclei (AGNs) using interband continuum delays. We examine effect LSST cadence strategies on RM our metric AGNTimeLagMetric. It accounts for redshift, cadence, magnitude limit, corrections dust extinction. Running different strategies, we produce atlas performance estimations photometric measurements. provide upper limit estimated number quasars which time lag can be computed within 01000 sources each Deep Drilling field (DDF, 10 sq. deg) any filter, redshift distribution these peaking at z~1. find observation good (~ 5 days) long cumulative season (~9 yr), proposed DDF, favored size measurement. create synthetic curves most suitable DDF cadences determine lags demonstrate impact best based

Foundations of Black Hole Accretion Disk Theory
This review covers the main aspects of black hole accretion disk theory. We begin with the view that one of the main goals of the theory is to better understand the nature of black holes themselves. In this light we discuss how accretion disks might reveal some of the unique signatures of strong gravity: the event horizon, the innermost stable circular orbit, and the ergosphere. We then review,...
متن کاملAccretion Disk Torqued by a Black Hole
If a Kerr black hole is connected to a disk rotating around it by a magnetic field, the rotational energy of the Kerr black hole provides an energy source for the radiation of the disk in addition to disk accretion. The black hole exerts a torque on the disk, which transfers energy and angular momentum between the black hole and the disk. If the black hole rotates faster than the disk, energy a...
متن کاملTheory of Disk Accretion onto Supermassive Black Holes
Accretion onto supermassive black holes produces both the dramatic phenomena associated with active galactic nuclei and the underwhelming displays seen in the Galactic Center and most other nearby galaxies. I review selected aspects of the current theoretical understanding of black hole accretion, emphasizing the role of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence and gravitational instabilities in driving ...
متن کاملSupermassive Black Hole Research in the Post-HST Era
Thanks to its unprecedented spatial resolution, the Hubble Space Telescope has ended a 20-year long stalemate by detecting the dynamical signature of nuclear supermassive black holes (SBHs) in a sizeable number of nearby galaxies. These detections have revealed the existence of a symbiotic relationship between SBHs and their hosts, changing the way we view SBH and galaxy formation. In this cont...
متن کاملX-ray iron line reverberation from black hole accretion disks
The relativistically broad X-ray iron line seen in many AGN spectra is thought to originate from the central regions of the putative black hole accretion disk. Both the line profile and strength will vary in response to rapid variability of the primary X-ray continuum source. The temporal response of the line contains information on the accretion disk structure, the X-ray source geometry, and t...
